4 THINGS TO KNOW

Health records: the essentials.

  1. 01

What to keep with a health record

Save the original document with its date, provider or laboratory, units and any instructions. A photograph or extracted number can lose context. Group related reports by date so that a later conversation can distinguish an old result from a current concern. Keep clinical interpretations and follow-up plans beside the source document.

  2. 02

Review imported information before relying on it

Check names, dates, test names and units against the original. Text extraction can misread a decimal point, an abbreviation or a table. If an app summary and the document disagree, use the original and ask the provider to clarify. A convenient view should make information easier to find, not quietly become a different medical record.

  3. 03

    Share through the right channel

Use the secure channel specified by your healthcare provider when sharing identifiable records. General website contact forms are for enquiries, not a medical-document handover. Before connecting a data source, review which permissions you are granting and how to disconnect it. The privacy and data-controls pages explain where to find the applicable policies.

  4. 04

    Prepare a concise visit summary

Bring the reason for the visit, the relevant original reports, current medicines and your main questions. A short history helps a clinician decide which details matter. An organized record supports care, but a stored report or AI summary is not a diagnosis.
