Doctor assessment: the essentials.
- 01
What the consultation should establish
ONU doctors give advice only. If a medicine is considered, it is prescribed outside ONU by your own doctor. The assessment should clarify the health question, previous approaches, relevant history and whether further evaluation is needed. It is not a formality before a guaranteed prescription. Ask who is responsible for the decision and how the clinician is licensed for your location.

Prepare a complete picture
Have your medicine and supplement list, allergies, relevant reports and previous treatment experience available. Describe what was helpful, difficult or associated with unwanted effects. Include your practical circumstances and goals so a proposed plan can be assessed beyond a weight measurement alone.
- 03
Understand proposed benefits and trade-offs
Ask why an option is being suggested, what evidence supports it, what uncertainties matter, what alternatives exist and which costs recur. If medicine is discussed, ask the clinician to explain suitability and follow-up rather than relying on a product advertisement or an app estimate.
- 04
Leave with responsibilities and contacts
Confirm the written plan, who arranges any tests, who prescribes and who supplies any treatment (outside ONU), and how to report a concern. Ask when follow-up occurs and what to do if you cannot continue. Follow the provider’s instructions for any prescription.
Everyday basics, with independent advice if you want it.
